Toponym frequent in the North of the country, derives from the noun antropónimo female Felgueira, meaning “land where there is felgas”. Probably source the Hebrew comes from Folgorosa, derived in turn from Felgar which means “field where there is felgas”.
There are also those who point Felgueira as a noun from the Latin filicaria, ficix, icis, “fetus”. One way or another, the toponym is related to the vegetation of the site.
